SteelStacks to host Angelique Kidjo Wed Feb 19th

GRAMMY Award-winning Beninoise singer-songwriter and activist Angelique Kidjo comes to the SteelStacks Musikfest Cafe for a one-night-only engagement, February 19. Kidjo has been deemed "Africa's premier diva" by Time Magazine, and the moniker speaks accurately to the singular career and life she has forged: Like Miriam Makeba was before her, Kidjo is the continent's most internationally celebrated female musical exponent.

Born in Benin, Kidjo got her start in the jazz/rock fusion band Jasper van’t Hof’s Pili Pili and went on to become one of the most popular performers in Paris. Her 1991 release, Logozo, hit No. 1 on the Billboard world music charts, and in 2008 she earned a Grammy Award for Best Contemporary World Music Album for her recording Djin Djin. Over the years, Kidjo has performed and recorded with some of music’s biggest names, including Dave Matthews, Josh Groban, Carlos Santana, Alicia Keys, Joss Stone, Peter Gabriel and Branford Marsalis.
