Allentown City Council overrides mayoral veto in passing 2017 budget

ALLENTOWN, Pa. - Tuesday night's special Allentown City Council meeting lasted 11 minutes but proved a few minutes too long for Mayor Ed Pawlowski.
Recognizing the futility of his position and the animosity that has blossomed throughout a contentious budget season with many members of council, the mayor decided to exit before council did what everyone expected them to do - vote to override the mayor's veto of their 2017 budget proposal.
Recognizing Pawlowski had simply walked out after not being able to persuade them to his point of view, President Ray O'Connell offered a bemused and confused look that conveyed surprise and annoyance and uttered one word.
